What a notarial services attorney can certify
A notarial certificate confirms facts the attorney has personally verified, such as the identity of the person signing, that the signature was made in their presence, or that a copy matches the original that was presented. It does not confirm that the content of a document is true, and it is not legal advice on the transaction itself.
- Witnessing signatures on powers of attorney, affidavits and declarations
- Certifying true copies of passports, certificates and company documents
- Certifying translations prepared for use abroad
- Consent letters for minors travelling with one parent or a third party
- Documents requested by foreign banks, universities and authorities
Our registered attorneys
Our team includes attorneys registered as notarial services attorneys by the Lawyers Council of Thailand. We display their registration certificates, with personal details partly redacted for privacy, so clients can see who will sign. Please bring your passport or Thai ID card to the appointment; the attorney must verify your identity in person.
Notarisation, legalisation and Apostille
Many overseas receivers ask for more than a notarial certificate. A document may then need legalisation by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs and by the embassy of the destination country. Thailand has acceded to the Apostille Convention; it is scheduled to take effect for Thailand on 28 February 2027, and until then the legalisation route continues to apply.
Because the right sequence depends on the destination country and the receiving office, tell us where the document will be used and we will map out the steps before the appointment.
Common reasons people need a notarial certificate
Foreign nationals living in Thailand often need a signature witnessed for a document that will be filed in their home country: a power of attorney to sell property, a statutory declaration for a pension, or an affidavit for a bank. Thai citizens need the same service for study and work abroad, for consent letters when a child travels without both parents, and for certified copies of degrees requested by foreign universities.
Companies use notarial certification for board resolutions, specimen signatures and certified copies of registration documents requested by foreign banks or business partners. In each case, the receiving organisation decides what it will accept, so the first step is always to read its instructions carefully.
What to bring to the appointment
Bring your passport or Thai national ID card, the unsigned document if a signature is to be witnessed, and the originals of any documents to be certified as true copies. If you sign on behalf of a company, bring evidence of your authority, such as a recent company affidavit and the resolution or document that authorises you to sign.
Do not sign the document in advance. The attorney must see you sign, or must confirm your signature with you in person, before certifying it. If the document is in a language you do not read, ask for a translation first; you should understand what you are signing.
Limits of notarial certification
A notarial certificate is evidence of what the attorney observed. It does not make a document legally valid if the document itself is defective, and it does not replace advice about the underlying transaction. The attorney may decline to certify when identity cannot be verified, when the signer appears not to understand the document, or when the request falls outside notarial practice.
If your document must also be legalised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or an embassy, the certificate must be prepared in a form those offices accept. We plan that sequence with you before the appointment to avoid repeating steps.
Frequently asked questions
Is a notarial services attorney the same as a notary public?
Not exactly. Thailand has no separate notary profession; registered attorneys perform notarial certification. Most foreign receivers accept this, but please confirm with the office that will receive your document.
Can you notarise a document remotely?
The attorney needs to verify the signer's identity, normally in person. Ask our team about your situation before sending documents.
How much does notarisation cost?
Fees depend on the number of documents, signatures and any follow-on legalisation. Our team quotes after reviewing your documents.
